5 reasons why you might need new cupboard doors

May 29th 2012 by .

If you are thinking that your kitchen cupboard doors are perfectly OK and that going to the bother of replacing them is just a waste of time, you will benefit from finding out the types of reasons why people change their doors. People decide to buy replacement kitchen cabinet doors for all sorts of reasons and some of them are probably surprising.

My kitchen cupboard doors are old

Well, this is pretty basic. If your doors are looking old and worn, your kitchen will look that way too. Even if the cabinets themselves are in good shape and the worktops are still serviceable; old, dirty and worn kitchen cabinet doors will let down the entire room.

Your kitchen doors can become worn far more quickly than the rest of your kitchen. This is because they see the most use and collect the most dirt. All that cleaning and scrubbing can result in a worn surface which will make them look old before their time. Perhaps your kitchen cupboard doors were relatively cheap in terms of the materials used, at the time they were bought. This means they are unlikely to last well and will need replacing ahead of other more durable materials such as tiles and work surfaces.

My kitchen cupboard doors are unfashionable

Perhaps you have moved into a new house and the colours or design ideas of the previous owner are not to your taste. Or maybe you fell for some fashion phase and bought doors which were only ever going to last a few seasons before they fell out of favour. In this case, replacing the doors is the perfect way to update without having to spend a fortune.

Replacement kitchen doors are the perfect way to keep up with current trends. You can replace the doors as often as you wish, with the minimum of fuss and the minimum of expenditure.

My family circumstances have changed

If you have recently had children or acquired a pet, you will be needing a kitchen which is a little more practical and easy to look after. Sticky fingers, dirty paws and wet noses all make short work of any polishing of surfaces you have completed. Your high gloss units will soon look like unusual works of art.

Simply swapping your kitchen doors for matt, painted or wood effect doors can really make all the difference. You won’t be cleaning constantly and your little ones can have fun without the hope of ruining your new kitchen.

I need more cupboard space

Assuming you have extra wall space, you can easily add cabinets to your kitchen – as long as you can find matching cupboard doors. Of course this is not always easy and sometimes replacing all of the existing cupboard doors to match your new ones is the only answer.

Many replacement kitchen door companies will sell cabinets which will match the dimensions of your existing ones and then all you need to do is find the doors which will transform your kitchen making it bigger and more practical all at once.

I am on a tight budget, but I want a new kitchen

Even if you have no reason for a new kitchen other than the fact you just want a change, your budget may be holding you back. Just replacing the kitchen cabinet doors is enough to make a substantial change without breaking the bank. You will save on the cost of ripping out the and installing new cabinets, the cost of new cabinets, the cost of tiling and worktops and you will get a kitchen which, for all intents and purposes looks and feels brand new. And you can even do it yourself!

Five places you can use replacement doors outisde of the kitchen

If you have already successfully used replacement kitchen unit doors to spruce up your kitchen, you may be wondering how you could use them elsewhere in the house. After all, they are a cheaper way of improving your home, there are plenty of styles and materials to choose from and you can install them yourself – once again saving money.

Read on for five good ways to use replacement kitchen doors in other parts of your home. You may even come across some uses which you never thought of.

The workshop or garage

It is surprising the amount of stuff we have in our garage or workshop which needs to be sorted and put away. Having kitchen cabinets in those areas of the house or garden is a great way to keep things clean and organised for when you need them. You could even add a worktop and some drawers and you have the perfect set up.

Your supplier of kitchen cabinet doors will also be able to sell you the carcasses and worktops and the best thing is that you don’t have to choose a fancy kitchen door, just one which stays clean and fits your environment will be fine.

In the study

It is amazing how much clutter can accumulate in the study and it usually ends up on the floor or spread all over the desk. This isn’t helpful when you need to work. Using kitchen cupboards in your study will allow you to hide things away, store them and keep it looking neat and tidy.

There are a number of excellent style kitchen doors which would be suitable for a study. For example any wood effect works well and any plain door will give the room a corporate look while still being smart and comfortable.

In Bedrooms

While it is possible to buy wardrobe doors as replacements, sometimes you need extra drawers or smaller cupboards. These could even be housed inside your current wardrobe. Modern kitchen units can work well in this setting. The abundance of sizes and types of doors will mean that you can fit storage space into awkward areas and give your room a fitted look without all the expense.

Kitchen units can also be used for toy storage and for keeping kids books and games stored out of sight. Replacement kitchen doors are sturdy enough to be used in kids bedrooms and will stay looking new even with rough handling.

The bathroom

Once again – storage is incredibly important in the bathroom and it can be difficult to shoe-horn cupboards into such a small space. This is where the flexibility of replacement kitchen doors and cabinets comes in handy.

Replacement kitchen doors come in a variety of sizes and can be used sideways if required. You could choose a tall larder style cupboard or a smaller above the cooker hood cupboard to fit your small space. Worktops also work well in a bathroom and offer extra space for display.

In the living room

Have you ever looked around your living room and wished some of the clutter could be whisked away? With a useful set of kitchen cupboards, you could hide away those games consoles, books, DVDs or kids toys. Being able to tidy these things away easily is a real bonus and will make you feel much less stressed at the end of the day.

You will need to choose your replacement cupboard door carefully to ensure it doesn’t look too much like a kitchen, but there are plenty of modern and traditional styles which will work well and save you money at the same time.

Quality product, beautiful finish

What do you think about your new kitchen doors? Quality product, beautiful finish
How did you get on fitting your new doors? Easy as pie!
What does the finished job look like? We had dark green doors and changed them for your ‘Vanilla’ colour so it is much, much brighter in there now
What could we do to improve our kitchen doors or our service? The only thing was that I asked for the hinge holes to be drilled too close together on one short height door, when this and 2 others arrived damaged you would not change the location for the re-made door. I think that using your experience someone should have queried this with me seeing as this was the first time I had done anything like this – bit frustrating 🙁

Any other comments? So pleased I am now replacing my sister’s and my father-in-law’s doors and have recommended you to 2 other friends (probably have to fit theirs too!)
(will upload photos when I have replaced the last door)

How did you get on fitting your new doors? No bother – husband put in the old kitchen so he’s had some experience before.

What could we do to improve our kitchen doors or our service? Delivery was messed up a bit; didn’t arrive when it was supposed to, but don’t think that was your fault and you telephoned the house. Maybe the mobile would be good for correspondence – a quick text perhaps?
