Five Tips For Choosing The Right Kitchen Doors For You

June 26th 2012 by .

With all of the amazing styles and materials now available in replacement kitchen door ranges, choosing which one will work best for your tastes and for your kitchen is no easy task. If you are wanting to make a change in your kitchen and you are embarking on the challenge of picking the right doors for you, following some of these hints and tips to get it absolutely right.

Do your research

Before you even start to picture the new kitchen doors arriving on your doorstep, you need to take the time to understand the styles which are available and what is currently fashionable. Read magazines for the latest kitchen photographs. These can be really inspiring. You certainly don’t need to spend a fortune like the owners of magazine kitchens do, but it could point you in the right direction to finding the replacement doors for you.

Another option is to visit local kitchen showrooms and DIY stores. You will then be able to look at and feel different shapes and materials and work out which would work best in your home. Take your phone and get some sneaky photos too – just for future reference.

Finally, look online at replacement door websites and see what styles are available in your price range. You will see that the number of options you can choose from is vast.

Get some samples

Once you have narrowed down your choices, you need to get some samples sent out to you. In most cases this will either be free or at a very small charge from your replacement kitchen door supplier. Once you receive them you should look at them in the kitchen at different times of the day. Look at the quality of the finish and the construction before committing to one style or material.

Go with what you know

Just because you are changing your kitchen for the better, it doesn’t mean you should change the type of person you are or the style you would normally opt for. It you are traditional and the rest of your house reflects that, a modern kitchen is likely to look out of place. You simply won’t be happy with the final result if you step outside of your comfort zone.

Having said that, don’t be afraid to experiment in terms of the usual colour you might choose. Replacement kitchen doors come in a huge range of colours and this gives you the chance to spread your wings in terms of the style, with compromising your inherent taste.

Consider your lifestyle

The colour, style and material of your new kitchen cabinet doors will need to fit in with the type of home and lifestyle you have. If kids and animals are the dominant feature of your kitchen, then a practical wooden or painted kitchen door will be better for hiding marks, scratches and dirt. However if you are the queen or king of cleanliness then a high shine finish on your kitchen cupboards might be perfect for you.

Look at your budget

Never spend more than you can really afford on your kitchen doors. It is true that you will be saving a huge amount of money by the sheer fact you are replacing the doors and not the entire kitchen. But even so, you need to choose your doors from a range which suits your budget.

Luckily having a small budget is unlikely to cause too many problems. Replacement kitchen doors are great quality while still being very reasonable in price. If you succumb to your desires and overspend, you will never be able to properly enjoy your new kitchen. You will always be thinking about how much it cost!

What do you think about your new kitchen doors? First class job, well made, solid, and nicely finished. You obviously have some quality routers!
How did you get on fitting your new doors? Fine. I fitted them to some old wall cabinets in order to make use of the space up to the ceiling. hinge holes all lined up perfectly to my given measurements.
What does the finished job look like? It looks as if new cabinets have been fitted.
What could we do to improve our kitchen doors or our service? Nothing. I am converting a utility room, and have since spoken to Greg to order a tall cupboard to match the doors. It should be here this week!

Any other comments? It is only a very small job, but it has made a tremendous difference to the look of the room.
Very pleased.
