Choosing the right kitchen door colour for you

March 26th 2013 by .

It may seem like a strange notion to say that the colour of your kitchen will really influence how you feel every time you walk into the room. But as anyone who has felt strangely oppressed or dark when entering a dark or dull home will know, the colours of your new replacement kitchen doors are really important. In fact you should take as much time thinking about your colour scheme as you do thinking about the style and material of your doors.

The psychological impact of certain colours has long been known and it is for good reason that we use pale pinks and blues in children’s rooms to keep them calm and happy. A study carried out a number of years ago looked into using pale pink in the cells of prisoners in an effort to prevent outbreaks of violence – it was found to work miracles. So it is clear that colour has an important role to play in your mood and the colour of your kitchen is just as important.

A woodgrain finish could add a sense of peace and calm to your home

Blues

Blue has often been associated with sadness or been seen as a boy’s colour. However, certain shades of blue can add energy to a sunny room. It may be a little cold for a room which sees little light, but a pale blue will give your kitchen cabinet doors a retro 50’s feel and one of simplicity. Try our paintable vinyl doors if you are struggling to find the right shade. Of course for those who like a warmer note to their blue, Gloss Aubergine will add a little drama while still being on the blue spectrum.

 Yellows

Stretching from the palest cream through to the brightest sunshine yellow, this shade will always add brightness to your kitchen and give it a summery feel. Yellows are known to make people feel happy even on a rainy winter’s day. While you may not want to add bright yellow doors to your kitchen, a creamy shade such as that found in our Visions range teamed with yellow painted walls might still achieve the look you want.

 Reds

Red has long been the colour of power. Women who wear red in particular say that it makes them feel powerful and attractive. There is no reason why this feeling cannot come from your kitchen doors. A full set of Ultragloss Red doors from our Visions range will ensure that the kitchen becomes a place you want to be day after day.

 Blacks

Whether it is a shiny Metallic Black or a plain Gloss Black, you can be sure that this shade will add drama to your kitchen and will create the perfect backdrop to your moods. Black is no longer the preserve of moody teenagers and can more easily reflect your personality than any other colour. As long as the finish is reflective, black is a statement colour which will shine – just like you.

 Woodgrains

Anyone with a natural personality and who likes the outdoors will be drawn to a woodgrain such as oak or beech. The warmth of these shades will make the kitchen a calm place to be, while the natural look will enhance your feeling of freedom and space. Even if your kitchen is small, the addition of a woodgrain finish will bring the outside in.

 White

Often seen as too clinical and clean for the home, this minimalist colour is ideal for anyone who wants to make their mind feel clear. Walking into an all white room will lift the spirits and allow you to see what needs to be done. It clears the mind of clutter and creates a calm and clean space to work in. If you want you can always soften it with some colourful accessories.

If you are wondering which colour to choose for your kitchen cabinet doors, why not ask for a selection of our colour swatches to see how they make you feel?

Let your imagination run wild with paintable replacement doors

If you are thinking of updating your kitchen with replacement kitchen cabinet doors, you may be worried that you won’t be able to find the shade which will perfectly match your décor or your dreams. Alternatively, you may want to simply replace or add one or two new doors and match them with your own existing doors. In both of these scenarios, paintable replacement doors may be exactly what you are looking for.

Our door styles can be painted – seen here in Chichester Silk White – but the colour is up to you

The paintable doors from Kitchen Door Workshop’s Trends range are the perfect antidote to the confusion over which colour to choose. They are designed with a smooth finish in Paintable Vinyl and will take on any colour you choose. Whether you are handy with a paint brush or a roller, these doors are ideal. Not only are they available in a huge range of door styles, but they can be customised to fit your specific needs.

 Wild colours

It is true that most kitchen cabinet doors are painted in relatively safe colours. This simply makes sense in terms of the sale of the product. The market for wild and imaginative colours is small – but it doesn’t mean that having interesting colours in your kitchen is impossible.

Paintable doors allow you to choose any colour and paint it on to the surface. You could even choose to paint each door differently to give your kitchen a fun rainbow look. You could buy white cabinet doors for most of your kitchen and a few paintable ones for those areas where you want to make a feature.

 Matching your existing doors

Sometimes, no matter how hard you look it is impossible to find doors which will perfectly match the colour of your existing doors. If all you want to do is replace a few of your kitchen doors or add a few new ones, you need to make sure that you get the right colour so that your additions are not noticeable.

Paintable doors make this a real possibility and will save you a fortune. DIY stores will now colour match paint based on a sample. All you need to do is take one of your old doors into the store and they will provide the right colour paint for your new doors. Kitchen Door Workshop will take care of getting the style just right too.

If the colour is hard to match you could simply repaint your old doors along with the new ones and you have the perfect new looking kitchen.

What about end panels and accessories?

One of the problems with painted doors is that the end panels and other trims won’t always match. One option is to paint the panels to match your new doors. If you choose vinyl trims and end panels you will be able to paint them to match your doors simply and easily.

Another option is to decide to go for a contrasting colour. Wooden trims will always look good, even with bright colours. Doing this will add interest to the kitchen and give it something a little special.

Finally you can always add more bling to your bright kitchen doors by deciding on door handles which say something about your personal taste. From wooden knobs to girly diamanté, handles can be the perfect final touch for your kitchen.

Paintable replacement kitchen doors highlight the fact that your kitchen is only limited by your imagination. You can easily transform your kitchen into the room of your dreams, even if that means bright pink doors or eighties fluorescent shades. There is no accounting for taste and whatever you choose is OK with us!

Ultra Modern or Timeless classic: Defining your kitchen style

March 7th 2013 by .

How would you define the type of person you are? Maybe you are young, fresh and cool or perhaps you could call yourself mature and refined. Either way, there is a good chance that your overall style will affect which replacement kitchen doors you would choose. Thankfully the styles available to you are close to endless and your every little preference can be taken care of – even if you find that you come somewhere in between super modern and old-style class.

Washington from the Trends Range in Cream. Modern, yet traditional

It is possible to find out your kitchen style by asking yourself a few basic questions and being honest about your needs and design desires.

What sort of house do you live in?

This has little to do with your own personal preferences (although you did choose your home!) but it can easily influence the type of kitchen you should choose. If you live in a traditional Victorian or Georgian home, you may find that a super modern kitchen will simply look out of place. However you could easily get away with something like a Shaker style replacement cabinet door as this will fit the modern brief while still having a traditional feel. Of course if you have chosen a modern or recently built home, you can let your imagination run wild and go as sleek and as contemporary as you wish.

How is the rest of your home decorated?

If your general style is reflected throughout the rest of your home, you should allow this to be the case in your kitchen too. If not, let the kitchen be the place you start. You may feel that a kitchen should simply be a functional area with good quality replacement doors, however there is plenty of scope for putting your mark on your kitchen and having a design style which flows easily from one room to the next.

How do you use your kitchen?

The way in which you use your kitchen on a day to day basis will be reflected in the types of doors your choose. A modern highly reflective ultra gloss door from our Visions range might be perfect for a kitchen which is used a little less often and where you do plenty of entertaining. It is a kitchen which needs to be shown off. However if yours is a family kitchen which serves as an entertaining space for children, dogs, cats and various neighbours, a more traditional wood or painted replacement door from our Trends range might be ideal for you.

Can’t agree on the right style?

Sometimes one person in the household is super modern and the other has traditional values. If this is the case in your home, a compromise is still very possible. Not everyone has the same thoughts on what a kitchen should look like and how a kitchen makeover should go ahead. With replacement kitchen cabinet doors, the choices are huge and each range has a number of doors which fit the “inbetween” brief.

As already mentioned, Shaker style doors are an excellent halfway house between modern and timeless. They have the sturdy qualities of a traditional handmade door, while they are simple and plain with enough detail to catch the eye without being overwhelming. Additionally, they also come in a huge range of colours which can turn them from plain and simple to exciting and interesting.

Whatever your personal style happens to be, you can easily find the right replacement kitchen doors to fit in with your décor aspirations. You may even be tempted to try something a little different and step away from your usual choices.
