As the nights fall earlier and earlier, we get more and more into the Christmas spirit – it really is the most wonderful time of the year. One of our favourite festivities is without a doubt the decorating of the home and in particular the kitchen. Barring the roasting of the turkey, it is a room that can often be forgotten through the winter, but if, like us, the kitchen is a room where everyone gathers in your home and you are likely to be entertaining people over the holiday period, then it is certainly worth decorating it to really bring home the Christmas cheer.

Where to Start?

Although it may not seem like it at first, the Kitchen has near endless possibilities when it comes to Christmas design ideas, from traditional ones such as covering the room in tinsel to more adventurous ideas such as livening up your kitchen cabinets.

The Tree of Course!

Nothing screams Christmas more than a beautiful green tree. So if you’re fortunate to have the room for one in your kitchen, then what are you waiting for? We’d suggest an artificial one as turkey and pine needles aren’t an ideal cooking combination, plus it makes for easy movement as you find the ideal position for it. You can go big or small, but we find a miniature tree on some spare worktop space is an ideal solution. The Christmas tree will form the focal point of the kitchen, so ensure the rest of the room is decorated similarly to avoid having a messy and disjointed looking kitchen.

Reds and whites are a perfect Christmassy combination, especially for the kitchen as the red brings the festive joy and offers a great contrast to the neutral yet snow-inspired white. However, remember to choose a colour scheme that complements the colour and style of your kitchen doors, which brings us nicely onto…

Christmassy Cabinets

Many people often forget, neglect or even don’t consider their kitchen doors when it comes to sprucing up their cooking space, understandably so as they are not the most obvious candidate for merry décor. However, just like the rest of the room, there are actually plenty of options when it comes to decorating, from the smart and simple to the bold and brilliant. As kitchen doors are used frequently, especially during Christmas, we prefer decorations that don’t obstruct your cabinets; however it purely comes down to personal preference. Take a look at some of our favourites below.

Bright is Beautiful

Nothing makes a kitchen gloomier than darkness and with the glum British winters we experience plenty of it. Therefore lighting up your kitchen is paramount – plus it means we can have fairy lights, lots of fairy lights! There’s no reason not to put them somewhere in your kitchen, as they never fail to lift the mood. We find placing some across the window sill or along the top of the cabinets are the ideal solutions.

Accessorise!

This is when you can really get your creative juices flowing. There are so many possibilities. From holly to candy cane and mistletoe to tinsel, words just can’t do them justice. That’s why we’ve created a collection of our absolute favourites that you can see below.

Christmas Cuisine

Last but certainly not least, how could any Christmas kitchen be complete without some festive food. Apart from the Christmas day roast there is lots of fun things you can cook to make your kitchen look and smell more Christmassy than ever. Gingerbread men, candy canes and chocolates are the order of the day here.

So there we have it, some of our top tips for decorating your kitchen this Christmas. What are you waiting for? Get into the Christmas spirit and start decorating.
